At the start of September, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S Coast Guard Research and Development Center launched the U.S Coast Guard Ready for Rescue Challenge. The goal of the competition is to find a better way to scan the water for people. There is a prize of $255,000 for whoever can demonstrate the best method.
The competition is broken down into three phases. The first phase is submitting an entry. Entrants should try to submit innovative solutions. The second phase will have select participants from the first phase pitch their concepts for a chance at a $120,000 prize pool. The third and final phase will have the participants field test their solutions with the Coast Guard alongside USCG approved Safety equipment. The judging panel may then award an additional $110,000 in monetary prizes.
